AAI subsidiary Aerosonde, located in Australia, is a designer and manufacturer of technology advanced unmanned aircraft systems. Today, the Aerosonde® family of aircraft has joined AAI’s expanding fleet of air vehicles and are included in AAI’s interoperability network of common ground control stations.
The company’s unmanned aircraft employ a catapult system to take off from small, remote clearings. They can also launch from the roof of a fast-moving ground vehicle.
Aerosonde’s mature aircraft have achieved a number of unique flight milestones:
- An Aerosonde MK 4 recently set the world flight endurance record by remaining aloft un-refueled for more than 38 hours.
- In a stunning achievement in 1998, an Aerosonde MK 3 crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 27 hours, using only 1.5 gallons of fuel.
