AAI is a full service UAS company with more than 25 years of experience designing, producing, testing, fielding and supporting a complete family of advanced tactical unmanned aircraft systems - the Shadow® 200, Shadow 400, and Shadow 600 systems - throughout the world.
The company’s foremost UAS is the U.S. Army’s highly regarded RQ-7B Shadow 200, which has amassed a record number of operational hours, including vital support of warfighters in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Through a joint procurement strategy with the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps decided in mid-2007 to retire its Pioneer systems (also built by AAI) and transition to the Shadow UAS.
AAI’s Aerosonde® small UAS is manufactured by its wholly owned subsidiary, Aerosonde Pty Ltd of Australia. The lightweight UAS can be launched using a catapult system or from the top of a fast-moving ground vehicle. It is utilized by NASA and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for hurricane research.
The company has also worked with Honeywell on its Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) for many years. As a subcontractor on this program, AAI designed and now fabricates the center body and pod sections of the ducted fan air vehicle.
In support of unmanned aircraft systems, AAI has developed an interoperability network of common ground control systems — the state-of-the-art One System Ground Control Station, the One System Portable Ground Control Station, and the One System Remote Video Terminal component.
Our engineering, logistics, and manufacturing personnel have accumulated specialized knowledge by analyzing customer requirements, conducting modeling and simulation studies, developing specifications, selecting components, managing suppliers, integrating components and subsystems, implementing lean production techniques, and developing “out of the box” maintenance, support, and crew training concepts.
