John F. Michitsch is executive vice president of AAI Corporation, an operating unit of Textron Systems Corporation and an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Textron Inc. A retired Army major general, Michitsch joined AAI in March 2004 after serving three years as vice president for ground, air, and unattended systems in the Land Combat Systems unit of Northrop Grumman Corporation's Electronic Systems Sector. While there, he was responsible for research, development, and sustainment of various defense weapon systems, including payloads for unmanned vehicles. Before joining Northrop Grumman, Gen. Michitsch was the Program Executive Officer for the Army's Ground Combat and Support Systems, a position in which he helped lead the development, production, and fielding of major weapon systems, including the M1A2 Abrams tank, the M2A3 Bradley fighting vehicle system, the Crusader artillery system, the Sense and Destroy Armor (SADARM) submunition system, and the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles. In addition, he spearheaded the Army's fielding of the 4th Infantry Division as the first fully digitized division and promoted significant acquisition reform to reduce development time and total life cycle system costs. Also during his Army career, Gen. Michitsch was commander of the U.S. Army Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation Command. He served in combat in Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. Gen. Michitsch earned a master of science degree in foreign literature from Case Western Reserve University and a bachelor of arts degree in literature from the University of Dayton. He is a member of the Association of the United States Army, the National Defense Industrial Association, the American Helicopter Society, and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.
