AAI offers a robust suite of simulators and training devices for its Shadow® tactical unmanned aircraft system (TUAS) and Aerosonde® small unmanned aircraft system (SUAS) platforms. These devices provide training for air vehicle operator and mission payload operator individual and crew skills, and fully support sustainment training. The trainers have instructor operator stations (IOS) that allow selection of terrain databases, weather, wind, atmospheric conditions, and time of day, as well as computer generated forces with realistic behavioral scenarios to support UAS mission operations. From the IOS, physics-based malfunctions and emergencies can be inserted, either on a pre-planned or spontaneous basis, and withdrawn. Each trainer has after-action review and performance assessment functions.
We take full advantage of the unmanned aircraft systems’ systems integration laboratories (SIL), which are used to develop and validate aircraft system upgrades prior to actual flight testing. This reduces trainer update risks by reusing SIL software models directly within the simulators, resulting in simulator updates concurrent with aircraft upgrades.
